What is happening
The operators of the Nelsonville Buckeye Drive-Thru have been working to reopen the former carryout and drive-through business at 701 Chestnut Street. The business has publicly stated that it had not yet received the required sign-off on its liquor permit and therefore could not offer beer when it had hoped to do so.
The available information indicates that the application involves Ohio's economic-development transfer process, commonly called a TREX transfer. Under Ohio law, a municipality receiving a transferred permit must acknowledge in writing that the transfer is for an economic-development project. That acknowledgment does not prevent the municipality from requesting a hearing.
